Glossary of Seat Covers

Custom Fit
A custom fit seat cover gives a perfect fit as it is manufactured to fit the exact year, make and model of a particular vehicle. Because of this, Custom covers fit better than anything else you will ever come across. It provides access to every feature and function provided with the particular automobile’s seat.

Friction 
When two objects rub together and either one or both of them are in motion, it leads to the production of energy in form of heat. This rubbing together of the two objects in called “friction”. This friction eventually results in deterioration of the surface material.

Neoprene
Neoprene was originally used only as an oil-resistant alternative to natural rubber. But soon it was discovered that Neoprene could be used in various other applications too. Neoprene has become very popular these days.

Pelts 
Pelt is the animal skin with the hair, fur or wool still attached to it. Pelts are very popular as seat covers as they do not shed, like lesser fur seat covers.

Pink Slip 
This is the American slang term that stands for the title of a vehicle. Street racers often wager their pink slip in a bet, which means whoever wins the bet, gets to keeps the loser’s vehicle. DMV recommends that you should never drive with the Pink Slip of your automobile in your glove box, in case your automobile gets stolen.

Polyester
Polyester is a strong, lightweight, synthetic fiber that has long been in use for its water-resistant qualities.

Semi-Custom Fit 
A Semi-custom fit seat cover provides a fit that is 80% as well as a custom fit seat cover. A semi-custom seat cover should never be used on vehicles that have side impact airbags, as they hinder their process.

Universal Fit 
A Universal fit seat cover will cover just any bucket seat, without giving it a perfect fit. It won’t hug the contours of your seat and so the protection offered is never great.

UV / Ultra Violet 
The sun emits large amounts of Ultra Violet rays, which is mostly filtered out by our atmosphere. What does get through though is harmful to our skin and to the automobile upholstery as well. It dries out the natural oils in leather, and it bleaches color out of vinyl and cloth upholstery as well.
